What are open when letters?
Open when letters are messages written ahead of time and labelled for a specific moment: when someone misses you, has a difficult day, or has something to celebrate. The recipient keeps each letter until its moment arrives.
What should I write in an open when letter?
Start with the feeling on the envelope. Add a real memory, say what you want the person to remember, and finish with a small invitation or a reassuring thought. A few sincere paragraphs are enough.
Can I send an open when letter online for free?
Yes. Choose a starting point or write from scratch, preview your letter, and create a link. Copy that link into your own message to the recipient. No account or payment is required.
Are my letters private?
Drafts are saved in this browser when local storage is available. Shared letters are encoded in the part of the URL after #, which is not sent to our hosting server. Anyone with the complete link can read the letter. It is not password protected or encrypted.
Can I schedule a letter or stop someone opening it early?
This version uses a trust-based opening moment, just like a paper envelope. It does not schedule delivery or enforce a date lock. The recipient chooses when to open it.
Can I print my letter?
Yes. Use Print in the letter preview or after opening a received letter. Your browser can print it on paper or save it as a PDF.
